Two sisters' reviews of Young Adult and Middle Grade books, inspired by their lovely library.
Fans of Grave Mercy! A recent update on R.L. LaFever’s website carries good and bad news about Mortal Heart. First of all, there is finally a cover for this book! Here is the official book description:
Mortal Heart by R.L. LaFevers, His Fair Assassin (Book 3)
Annith has watched her gifted sisters at the convent come and go, carrying out their dark dealings in the name of St. Mortain, patiently awaiting her own turn to serve Death. But her worst fears are realized when she discovers she is being groomed by the abbess as a Seeress, to be forever sequestered in the rock and stone womb of the convent. Feeling sorely betrayed, Annith decides to strike out on her own. She has spent her whole life training to be an assassin. Just because the convent has changed its mind doesn’t mean she has.
More good news, it is 480 pages long! That’s even longer than Dark Triumph (but not as long as Grave Mercy)!
Bad news… it won’t be published until November 4th, 2014.
But while you are waiting, you can add waiting for Ruin and Rising to your list! Here is the new cover for this book, expected to be published on June 17th this year.
Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo
The capital has fallen. The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.
Now the nation’s fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.
Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.
Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.
