Gwen & Kate's Library

Two sisters' reviews of Young Adult and Middle Grade books, inspired by their lovely library.

YA Novellas #7: Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

This list is the seventh of a series I am doing on young adult novellas and short stories, available on ebook, in a print version, online, or in anthologies. I have not read any of these novellas, but I have read all the series they belong to, or other books by that author. Once I read a novella, I will post a short review in the comments section. Feel free to post one of your own! Enjoy!

#0.5 Glitches (ebook, 32 pages)

13254289

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. In Glitches, a short prequel story to Cinder, we see the results of that illness play out, and the emotional toll that takes on Cinder. Something that may, or may not, be a glitch…

#1.5 The Queen’s Army (ebook, 18 pages)

It is time. The boy must leave his family to serve in the Queen’s army. To be chosen is an honor. To decline is impossible. The boy is modified. He is trained for several years, and learns to fight to the death. He proves to the Queen—and to himself—that he is capable of evil. He is just the kind of soldier the Queen wants: the alpha of his pack.

Also see YA Novellas #4: The Grisha by Leigh Bardugo for information about The Fierce Reads Anthology, which contains not only Leigh Bardugo’s short story The Witch of Duva, but Marissa Meyer’s Glitches as well!

Visit Marissa Meyer’s website for more information about her coming books, Cress and Winter, and her short stories page offers online copies of these novellas.
