Gwen & Kate's Library

Two sisters' reviews of Young Adult and Middle Grade books, inspired by their lovely library.

Thanksgiving Special: Thanks to Tamora Pierce!

Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors, although I have grown out of most of her books by now. My favorite series by her is her Protector of the Small series, about a young girl training to be a knight and the hardships she endures from the other sexist pages. For any lovers of knights or the Middle Ages, I would recommend all of Tamora Pierce’s Tortall novels. I hope to someday write a post about her and a short summary or review of all of her many books, but in honor of Thanksgiving, today I am going to write a list of all the books by other authors that I have read and loved thanks to her great reviews.

Girl of Fire and Thorns  by Rae Carson

“Engrossing” – Tamora Pierce

The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke

“Unique, heart-wrenching, full of mysteries and twists!” – Tamora Pierce

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

“Here’s a WOW of a book!” – Tamora Pierce

Seraphina by Rachel Hartman

“Seraphina is strong, complex, talented–she makes mistakes and struggles to trust, with good reason, and she fights to survive in a world that would tear her apart.” – Tamora Pierce

Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith

“A realm in trouble, a spirited female hero with magic to surround her, mystery, romance, an enigmatic marquis, court etiquette and secret messages–this is the stuff of dreams!” – Tamora Pierce

Nobody’s Princess by Esther Friesner

“This is my kind of Helen: bright, stubborn, determined to be a great queen and a true warrior–a true Spartan. Bring on the adventure!” – Tamora Pierce

The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima

“An utterly gripping read…There’s danger at every turn and a civilization that’s coming apart–how could I not love this book?!” – Tamora Pierce

Books To-Read Thanks to Tamora Pierce:

Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst

“Readreadread this book, please! I don’t say this because Sarah Beth Durst is my friend. I say it because she has knocked me butt over teakettle.” – Tamora Pierce

Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara

“A unique police procedural in which the cops are divided into three branches: Wolves, Hawks, Swords; and the people are divided into multiple races, including lion-like Leontines, flying Arielites, humans, and immortal Dragons and Barrantines. Someone is ritualistically killing children in this book, raising tattoo-like marks in their skin in pattern-like murders, but what are they trying to achieve, and can they be stopped?” – Tamora Pierce

A Curse Dark as Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce

“Splendid… a smashing read!” – Tamora Pierce

Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan

“It’s a wild ride in a truly unique setting that’s all Brennan’s own. Don’t miss it!” -Tamora Pierce

I wish I were a kid again. They didn’t have great books like these when I was growing up.
